Metung via Bruthen

Sunday 30 August – got to a very nice little (emphasis on little) camp at Metung. As planned, we went via Bruthen to play tourists as per map below:

The visit to Bruthen was nice and if you go there you have to try the Cornish Pasties from the bakery. They were our lunch and probably rate as the best we have ever had – no pics, they went too fast 🙂 but here are some from our Bruthen visit:

Finally got to Metung RV Rest Stop here:

and of course the pics:

and then there was the video:

Metung used to have Hot Pools and they were closed in early 90’s due to EPA regulations.  The hot water resulted from bore water coming from a failed mine operation and a local who capitalised on the failure:

More Metung Info HERE.

Monday 31 August. last day of Winter ,,,,,, yaaaaa!
Gerri went for a walk into the Metung town centre a nice boardwalk most of the way and Kym went for his usual ride to uncover some hidden treasures:

Tomorrow, 1st of Spring, off to Genoa for our last few days.

moved on to Coonabaraban for a bit (a lot) of shopping & refuel.
At the Tourist Info there was an impressive display of a Diprotodon skeleton found near Tambar Springs, NSW:

Diprotodon skeleton, sort of looks like a huge wombat

We were able to dehitch Taj (as in Taj Mahal) outside the RV friendly Tourist Info Centre to enable an easier visit to the Sandstone Caves in Pilliga Nature Reserve.

The Sandstone Caves in Pilliga Nature Reserve , about 35km Nth of Coonabarabran is well worth a visit as evidenced by this Slideshow:

Back to Coonabarabran Tourist Info to get reacquainted with Taj and off to an overnighter at the Oxleys Crossing Rest Area about 31km Nth-Est of Coonabarabran.

Communications Report: Mobile phone was absent with Commander  (via Telstra) and also absent with Mobile Broadband with Virgin (via OPTUS) – Peace for 1 night!

Next off to Premer for a few days as a base to explore Coolah Tops National Park and the region. We’ve heard there is a Lions Park with loos, water & hot showers for round $7/night, just affordable 😉
