Ended up in Binnaway, only 50km from Mandooran, our last stay. Gerri went to Coonabarabran for shopping and a laundromat.
As we left Mandooran we picked up some fresh tomatoes from a roadside stall with scales & an honesty box. So now nice home grown tomatoes to cherish. Here is pic.
On the way we stopped for morning tea and there were “lovely” Prickly Pear everywhere, looks nice but is a weed. See pic below.
We are camped at the Binnaway Pumphouse Camping Ground, a freecamp in town, and they have showers ($2/5min) that Gerri used and Kym had a shower by the van as the paid showers did not have a free cold water option. Power is also available, $2/3hrs, which we do not need. See a short Video of Pumphouse Camping Ground.
Had lamb casserole for dinner (and very nice it was too) that Gerri cooked and used some red wine. In the cooking process the rising vapours set off our new Gas Alarm. We figured it was the evaporating alcohol, that is a combustible gas, that set the alarm off …… who would have thought!
May stay here another day, will decide tomorrow.
Well, we stayed today, Tuesday 30/04/2013, and will head off tomorrow.
Today we wandered around town, Gerri did MORE washing (not sure where it all comes from), Kym did a repair to the annex roof that was starting to rip and fixed with contact cement and some seatbelt webbing found on road whilst riding. Also picked up a nice okky strap on that ride. Also moved a fire extinguisher to make way for a shoe hanger.
Below is a pic of the Old Pumphouse that we presume would have supplied water early in Binnaway’s History. The area is now a dedicated Freecamp that encourages travellers, like us, to stay and so spend our money in town, which we did.
Also of interest is the mobile phone services again. We have good Virgin 3G (Optus) internet but NO Telstra 3G phone, continuing the no Telstra in the bush trend. On our walk found this tower with an Optus Fibre Cable right next to it.
Tomorrow we are on our way and we believe we are heading to Pilliga Artesian Bore Baths for a warm bath. The link is a Google Map of our planned route. Will probably do a one nighter along the road as there are a few things on the way, like Warrumbungles, and Gerri has to go through Gulargambone because she likes the sound of the name and there may be a family connection there. There are a couple of roadside freecamps just out of Gulargambone.
As we were leaving Binnaway overhead a couple of people talking, the first person said “Where’s you bin?”, the other person said “I’s binnaway”. 🙂
